Second Message: The Eucharist

In this section, dedicated to studying more in depth the events, the documentation, and the statements of the Church with respect to Garabandal, we now offer you, in this article, a passage from the book "Garabandal: A Message of Hope," by José Luis Saavedra, that will help us to better comprehend part of the second message given in Garabandal. This message invites us to give more importance to the Eucharist—something that, in the present times, is absolutely necessary. Let us not permit that the words of Our Blessed Mother fall into the void. We are called to put a remedy to the abandonment of Jesus in the Eucharist, and to repair the offenses committed against such a great gift.

From the book “Garabandal: A Message of Hope”

“In a clear and simply way, the second message reaffirms the content of the first message: “We must make many sacrifices, do much penance.” Prayer and sacrifice.
eucaristia articleGreat emphasis is placed on the Eucharist: during the apparitions, the Eucharist had already been emphasized through the mystical communions of the visionaries, the “milagrucu” (little miracle), and the first public message. Now, the second message reiterates that the Eucharist must receive greater attention in the Church, given that “less and less importance is being given to the Eucharist.” Recently, the Magisterium of the Church has stressed this same point: “The Church lives of the Eucharist” (St. John Paul II).

“In an altogether particular manner, let everyone do all that is in their power to ensure that the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist will be protected from any and every irreverence or distortion and that all abuses be thoroughly corrected. This is a most serious duty incumbent upon each and every one, and all are bound to carry it out without any favoritism” (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments).

It seems, therefore, that the message of Garabandal was anticipating the “serious” preoccupation that the Magisterium later expressed. There are many other aspects of the message that comply with the recent doctrine of the Church. Along with the Eucharist, the message calls our attention to:
- Then need for penance: “You should make more sacrifices.”

- The importance of prayer, particularly the meditation of the Gospel: “Meditate on the Passion of Jesus.”

- The need for repentance and the gravity of sin: “If you ask for His forgiveness with sincere hearts, He will forgive you.”

- The importance of prayer of petition: “Pray to us with sincerity, and we will grant your requests.”

The orthodoxy of these points speaks for itself. The message is truly an exhortation that calls us to conversion: “I, your Mother, through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, ask you to amend your lives…” Our Lady, once again, manifests herself as Mother, and her message is that of penance and conversion.
