Month of May in Garabandal

The simple “Month of May” devotion in Garabandal, in spite of its older use of language, exudes love for Our Lady, trust and admiration for her. We would like to offer it to you in the following audio, with the desire that it help all of us to grow in intimacy with Our Mother in Heaven.

mes de mayo

At the time of the apparitions, San Sebastian de Garabandal was a deeply religious village. At sunset, when a day of harsh work in the fields and with the livestock was finished, many went to the parish church to pray the Rosary together.

During the month of May, after finishing the Rosary, they had the “Devotion of the Month of May,” a simple, filial practice of piety, which has formed part of the long tradition of the entire Catholic Church to honor her Mother in Heaven.Just as it is a gift to contemplate the fields full of flowers and colors in May, it is an even greater gift for the Christian to contemplate the virtues that adorn the soul of Mary.

Even today, in the parish of San Sebastian de Garabandal, this devotion during the “Month of May” continues to be practiced just as it was during the time of the apparitions. The most elderly of the village testify that it is the same devotion as long before the apparitions, ever since they had the use of reason, and most certainly even before that.

Month of May Devotion - English translation

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Our Mother: we love you, always invoke you and consecrate ourselves to you, especially in this month of flowers that Christians dedicate to your love.

O paradise of the New Adam without the serpent; O closed garden;  O lily of the valley, stainless lily; Thornless flower; Mystical rose; O flower of Jesse; Branch of Kadesh; Cedar of Lebenon; O flower of all virtues and tree of all graces, whose fruit is Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Make all virtues and graces of God flourish in our souls and may Jesus bear fruits of holiness and grace in us. As you are the sealed and pure fountain, do not permit that the flower of devotion and the fruit of Jesus Christ’s love wither in our souls.

Make your petition.

My most loving Mother, remember me, a poor sinner, at every instant of my life.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Channel of divine graces, grant me abundant tears to weep bitterly for my sins.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Immaculate daughter of Joachim and Anne, attain for me from your Most Holy Son the graces I need for my salvation.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Queen of Heaven and earth, be my refuge and defense against my enemies in temptation.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Advocate and refuge of sinners, help me at the hour of my death and open the doors of Heaven to me.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Final prayer
Blessed be your purity. May it be blessed forever. For no less than God takes delight, in such exalted beauty. To you, heavenly Princess, Holy Virgin Mary, I offer on this day my whole heart, life and soul. Look upon me with compassion, do not leave me, my Mother.

Song: The White Virgin in triumphant march goes through the world. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria.

A Hail Holy Queen to Our Lady
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee to we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord:
Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

And the Word was made Flesh:
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

O Mary conceived without sin,
Pray for us who have recourse to thee.
